Ural Federal University (UrFU, Yekaterinburg, Russia) is one of the first universities in the country to open an entrant campaign for both Russian and international students who wish to enter the university, which began on Thursday and will continue through the end of the year.
“This year’s admittance is unique and conducted in a single stage. This is a wise option because many qualified applicants cannot handle the stress of having to flee the Sverdlovsk region before missing the first call. A single decision is enough to fill all the budget seats,” said Sergey Kortov, UrFU’s first vice-rector.
According to him, the university will accept applications from international students in various formats. Additionally, the university prepared to move to more remote forms of admission within 24 hours. “Everything is subject to the governor’s (of the Sverdlovsk area) regulations and our founder’s instructions. In any case, there would be no transition or inconvenience for the candidates,” Kortov elaborated.
In total, the university is planning to enroll more than 12,000 students this year, both on a contract and on a budget basis. This year, the number of accepted foreign applicants has risen by over 1,000. And is split among a number of disciplines, including those relating to digital and IT technologies.
“This is a worldwide trend. Second, we have received humanitarian places with budgetary support. This is exciting as well because society cannot progress in a harmonic and timely manner solely through the use of equipment and information technologies,” Kortov emphasized.
UrFU surpassed all other universities in the country in terms of the number of budget places this year. As a result, about 7.5 thousand seats will be accessible for students at all levels and categories of study. On a contract basis, the university currently offers around 5,000 seats.
