About 12 thousand new federal budgetary positions in universities opened in 2020. Their numbers of digital economy specialties have almost doubled. Universities and scientific organizations received 21 billion rubles of financial support in recent epidemic circumstances.
Last year in 2020, the Russian Government paid special attention to updating the material and technical equipment of universities. A total of 18 billion rubles was allotted for this reason. In response to the recent epidemic, more than 200 organizations, including almost 400 universities in 82 regions of the country, for the first time received such grants from the federal budget, a significant improvement over 2019. Russia is planning to allocate approximately 1.5 trillion rubles from the federal budget for basic and scientific research and development in the next three years.
