Registration of teams for participation in the international student e-sports tournament in Dota 2 and League of Legends’ “Battle for Science” has opened, which is organized by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation. The competition will mark the end of the Year of Science and Technology in Russia. Registration for the tournament will last until December 5.
League of Legends is the world’s most popular MOBA (battle arena) game. Dota 2 is also very popular, especially among esports players from the CIS.
“The popularity of eSports among young people and especially students is not surprising. These disciplines are at the intersection of sport, technology, innovation, and education. Esports develops intelligence, teaches quick decision-making and teamwork. This is truly the sport of the future. The international tournament “Battle for Science” is a timely initiative, which will be a bright conclusion to the Year of Science and Technology in Russia announced by the President. I wish all the participants good luck, may the strongest win! ” – said Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko.
The prize fund of the tournament is 2 million rubles – 1 million for each type of program. Competitions are held in 5×5 format. Active students can become participants, members of one team must represent one educational institution. To participate in the tournament, you must register on the site and create a team by filling in all the necessary information about the players. The team is registered by the captain, through whom all organizational issues will subsequently be resolved.
“Cybersport develops intellectual and managerial skills, the ability to make quick decisions and take personal responsibility for the overall team result. These qualities are useful and in demand in any professional environment. Therefore, we support the interest of young people in e-sports and are ready to develop it with the help of various tools, including involving universities and private companies in the process, “said Valery Falkov, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.
The competition is divided into three stages: qualifications, playoffs, and finals. The Grand Grand Final will be held in the format of a LAN event in Moscow, in which the two best teams will take part in each type of program.
The Battle of Science matches will be broadcast live in Russian.
Qualifiers will be held in the traditional Olympic Single Elimination format until the first defeat. Eight teams will advance to the main stage – four from each qualification. They will fight in the playoffs according to the Double Elimination system, and the two best teams in League of Legends and Dota 2 will go to the big LAN final in Moscow. As part of the Moscow grand final event, a cosplay competition will take place: anyone can demonstrate their skills in transforming into League of Legends and Dota 2 characters.
