Russia and Nicaragua mutually recognize education and academic degrees

The agreement between the Governments of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Nicaragua on the mutual recognition of education, qualifications and academic degrees, signed on December 7, 2020, entered into force.

The National Assembly of the Republic of Nicaragua ratified the agreement almost a year after it was signed. The Russian side was notified of this by the Russian Foreign Ministry. Thus, both countries confirmed the completion of the domestic procedures required for the entry into force of the document.

The agreement will promote the development of direct contacts between educational organizations of the two countries and the expansion of academic mobility. In accordance with the document, secondary, secondary vocational and higher education, qualifications and academic degrees obtained in Russia and Nicaragua will be recognized in the states automatically and free of charge, and educational organizations and employers will be able to independently accept holders of foreign education for training or employment.

Currently, the citizens of Nicaragua consider Russia an attractive country for studying. This is largely due to the decision of the Government of the Russian Federation to gradually increase the quotas for admitting foreign citizens until 2024. A number of agreements on cooperation between universities have already been concluded: the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua signed such an agreement with the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (2010); Samara National Research University named after Academician S.P. Korolev (2013) and Southern Federal University (2017).

The Southwest State University most actively interacts with Nicaraguan partners in the field of training specialists, conducting internships and courses in the study of the Russian language, joint research in the fields of mechanical engineering, energy, construction, environmental protection and information technology.
