Tomsk. December 6. Russianeducation.org -SIBERIA – The presidential platform “Russia – the Land of Opportunities” will open a competence center for assessing and developing students’ leadership and management skills at the Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU), the university’s press service said on Monday.
The new structure will operate in a network format. Students will be able to pass a set of special tests in order to understand what competencies need to be improved in themselves.
“After passing the test, students will have a digital competency profile that will be available not only to the student but also to employers. Moreover, the latter, on their part, will be able to propose some changes, adding the necessary competencies or their more in-depth pumping,” the press service quotes Denis Tchaikovsky, Director of the TPU School of Basic Engineering Training.
His deputy Vladimir Guzyr noted that the main attention will be paid to the development of “soft skills”. According to him, despite the technical orientation of the Tomsk Polytechnic University, the university has a wealth of experience in the field of management education and the humanities.
“A new generation engineer a priori cannot do without soft skills. This is not just a person who offers technical solutions, but acts in the context of the development of society and its demands, understanding his social responsibility for the consequences of his decisions,” Guzyr said.
The TPU press service notes that 38 such centers will appear in Russia by the end of the year, and by 2023 their number will almost double. About 300 thousand students will be able to take tests there.
Tomsk Polytechnic University was founded in 1896 and is the first technical university in Siberia. TPU ranks under the top 50 Institutions in the QS World University Rankings: Emerging Europe and Central Asia (EECA) 2021.
In addition, TPU was selected for the new federal program “Priority 2030” and received the maximum grant for the “Research Leadership” track. One of the university’s strategic projects within the program is dedicated to the transformation of engineering education.
