An agreement between the Governments of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Angola on the mutual recognition of education, qualifications, and academic degrees has entered into force.
Thanks to the agreement, certificates, and diplomas of secondary, secondary vocational, higher education, as well as academic degrees obtained in Russia and Angola will be recognized in both countries. The document provides for recognition, including higher medical and pharmaceutical education.
Now more than 1,300 Angolan students are studying in Russian universities, of which 159 people entered the 2021/2022 academic year within the quota established by the Government of the Russian Federation.
Currently, the largest number of Angolan students are studying at the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia aka RUDN University, Belgorod State Technological University named after. V.G. Shukhov, Chelyabinsk State Institute of Culture, Belgorod State National Research University, Voronezh State Institute of Arts, Kuban State Technological University, Oryol State University named after I.S. Turgenev and the North Caucasian Federal University.
Citizens from Angola most often choose to study musical and instrumental art, oil and gas, medicine, electric power, electrical engineering, management, construction, computer science, chemical technology, architecture, and economics.
The rector of the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (RUDN) Oleg Yastrebov noted that more than 90 students from Angola study full-time at the university. “87% of them are on the budget. Angolans more often enter PFUR for engineering specialties. Computer areas are in demand, as well as economics, chemistry, and physics. RUDN University diplomas have been actually recognized in Angola since Soviet times. But this agreement resolves the issue on a legal plane and, of course, will simplify the recognition of diplomas from other Russian universities, which will contribute to the export of Russian education,” explained Oleg Yastrebov.
Rector of Belgorod State Technological University (BSTU) V.G. Shukhov Sergei Glagolev noted that the agreement that has entered into force will expand the forms of international cooperation of higher educational institutions, which is the most important aspect of the education sector. “For our university, this means expanding the scope of interests and practical results in science, training new personnel, and familiarizing with world culture. Today at BSTU, Angolan students receive a quality education in all forms of education, take an active part in the life of the university and the Belgorod region, ”Sergey Glagolev emphasized.
