Over 135,000 foreign students have not yet returned to Russia due to COVID-19 – Ministry of Education and Science

Moscow. January 26th. – Over 135,000 foreign students studying at Russian universities are still outside the Russian Federation due to the spread of the coronavirus, education for them is organized in a remote format, the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education told Russianeducation.org.

“As of January 24, the total number of foreign students studying is 345,849, of which 208,502 are in Russia, and 137,347 are outside Russia,” the department said on Wednesday.

“In connection with the implementation of restrictive measures aimed at combating the spread of coronavirus infection, universities have organized an educational process in a remote format for foreign students outside Russia, which provides parallel (synchronous) full-time education,” the Ministry of Education and Science emphasized.

They said that “additional measures aimed at organizing the education of students in the second semester are not required.”

According to official data, there are over 4 million students in the Russian Federation, including foreign ones.
